UPDATED – Sims 5 release date coming this year?

LATEST: Rumors are swirling the Sims 5 could release as early as this year (expect it late). Though we’re still thinking late 2024/early 2025 is most likely.

Sims 5 is coming, baby and we’ve got all the goss you need to know! Although, it’s technically known as Project Rene for now, but either way, it’s the next generation for the Sims series.

EA and Maxis have confirmed that they’re working on Project Rene. It’s set to “reimagine The Sims you know and love with new ways to play” and “built on a foundation of charming Sims, powerful tools, and meaningful stories”.

The Sims Project Rene reveal follows news that the base game for The Sims 4 is now free to play. This gave fans hope that this was the beginning of plans for Sims 5.

While there’s no concrete release date yet, players are being let in on the secret “earlier than ever before”. Maxis wants you to be a part of the development journey with Project Rene.

But don’t get too excited, as we’ve been told that the release date is “years out” (with rumors building it could be much sooner, that’s not official).

Lyndsay Pearson, the VP of Franchise Creative for The Sims, says that the Project Rene reveal marks the start of their journey over the next few years, and it’s super early for them as they’ve never shared information about their games years before launch to the world.

So, expect Project Rene to be at least a few years away from launch. Maybe even as late as 2025.

The Sims 5 Project Rene

Officially known as Project Rene, The Sims 5 is the next generation of Sims games and creative platforms!

Pearson, the boss lady of franchise creative for The Sims, explains that the new name is a nod to words like renewal, renaissance, and rebirth. It represents their renewed commitment to the series.

In short, they’re ushering in a whole new future for The Sims, and we’re getting a sneak peek!

The Sims 5 Trailer

The Sims 5 is an upcoming life-simulation video game for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation and Xbox.

The game is still in the early stages, but new game mechanics will allow players to create their own stories with friends. They’ll also be able to use the game’s built-in social features to share their creations with others.

The Sims 5 early access

The studio is teaming up with the community to help guide the development of this much-anticipated life-simulation video game.

Over the next couple of years, they’ll be sharing updates, sneak peeks, behind-the-scenes content. Even Early Access to Project Rene software to small groups. Now, it’s not exactly Alpha or Beta access, but it’s still pretty cool, as it gives the community a chance to have a say in the game’s development.

So, if you want to be a part of the action, make sure to stay tuned to Maxis’ social channels and the official website.

What will a new Sims game look like?

Get ready for a whole new level of customization in the Build Mode, with players able to change the color, pattern, and even shape of objects. We’re talking about making a bed into a double or single, changing the shape of a sofa, and even adding throw pillows to a couch!

Plus, players will have the option to share their furniture arrangements with friends or keep their creations all to themselves.

In the latest update on Project Rene, EA revealed they’re experimenting with a social play experience. Players could design an apartment together with close friends, or you can still enjoy a private and intimate escape on your own. The Sims 5 builds upon The Sims 3’s widely praised customization, so get ready to make your homes look lived-in and not so blocky.

“We’re pushing the limits and experimenting to offer more flexibility than ever before,” says Pearson. “We’re starting with the ability to change patterns, colors, and shapes of objects to create unique and personal spaces.” Get ready, builders, it’s time to let your creativity run wild!

The Sims 5, now with friends – Multiplayer Confirmed By EA

The Sims 5’s got multiplayer features, baby! That’s the word from Electronic Arts. Yes, you heard it right, the world’s most popular life simulation game is getting a multiplayer upgrade! “Project Rene” as it’s known for now, will allow players to create and play together, or solo, however they fancy. But how exactly it’ll work, we don’t know yet.

We know they are working to make it easier to work and share with others. You will be able to choose to play it by yourself or with your closest mates. It’s entirely up to you!

Some of the spoilers for The Sims 5

“The Sims 5 – Cars, Live-Service, and Open Worlds: What’s Next?”

Rumours are swirling that The Sims 5 will be a live-service game and we couldn’t be more excited! Industry insider Jeff Grubb dropped the bomb on his Giant Bomb show back in September 2022, suggesting that EA is ready to shake things up with the next game in the series.

“I think they’re ready to change how they approach their big numbered sequels going forward, including The Sims,” Grubb said. “And I think that audience would be more than happy to do it with that game.”

But what does the future hold for The Sims 5? Fans have been clamoring for cars, an open world, and greater diversity, and Maxis has been listening. The Sims 4 has come a long way with customisable pronouns, asexual and aromantic Sims, and a wider variety of skin tones, Black hairstyles, and East Asian eye presets.

As for cars, the team acknowledged the high demand in March 2021, saying “it involves many, many processes and often takes a lot of time.” It’s unclear if we’ll see cars in The Sims 5, but there’s always hope!

Open worlds, on the other hand, are a different story. Nobody knows if it would fit with the core design of the next game, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed! If not there will always be expansion packs, a concept which likely won’t change with the next Sims.

The Sims 5 platforms – Will it be cross-platform?

Maxis is testing out Project Rene on both a PC version and mobile devices!

During the Behind the Sims Summit, the dev team gave us a sneak peek of how you can play the game on “supported devices of your choice.” They showed off how you can place furniture on a phone screen and see those changes instantly replicated on a monitor – and they’re aiming to offer the “same experience [on] different screens.”

“No matter who you may want to play with, we want you to be able to play wherever you want,” says Pearson. And in a recent community update, EA confirmed that Project Rene will be available on PC and mobile. “With Project Rene, you’ll be able to play on a PC, put it down, and pick up right where you left off on a mobile device,” reads the post.

However, the team is still working on tailoring the experience to each platform, so hold your horses, simmers! But with this kind of mobility, you can now play your sims on the bus, at the park, or even in the loo! The possibilities should be endless, people!
